Fall Chinook Season Opened August 1, 2020 in Oregon
DGG Fishing is operating full time and here to service you for all your guided fishing needs. The weather is great, and fishing has been fantastic! Fall Chinook season opens August 1st and will give you the chance to beat the heat in the valley and experience some cooler coastal temperatures while bringing home salmon for the BBQ!
Monthly Re-Cap
The South Santiam River flow remained high and cold into mid-July allowing for great trout and salmon fishing. My boat reported good catches of salmon and had amazing trout action. Most of the trout, a mix of cutthroat and rainbow, came nymph fishing a size 6-8 black stone fly with a size 10-12 prince nymph dropper. All spring chinook were caught back bouncing or backtrolling cured salmon eggs and sandshrimp. The salmon this year really keyed in on the cocktail presentation, salmon eggs and sandshrimp, behind a large jumbo jet diver. I have heard reports of steelhead being caught but I have not personally caught any in my boat and I have yet to target them due to the low number of steelhead present in the river.
Upcoming Fishing Seasons
- Summer Trout Fishing (May 22 – October 31)
- Summer Steelhead/trout (June 10 – September 15)
- Fall Chinook (August 1 – Nov. 15)
Fall salmon fishing is here and will provide another season of great fishing! Contact me as soon as possible to book your trip. I only have a couple available days left during the best part of the season. August and September are a great time of the year to beat the heat in the valley and fish for fall chinook along the coast. The fish are fresh from the ocean and great eating!
