Fishing in Oregon has reopened. I have started running Salmon fishing trips starting May 15. There will be some adjustments to my trips to provide a safe environment for my guests and myself until the COVID 19 Virus has calmed down. I will no longer provide snacks and water on trips. Guests that are feeling sick or running a fever will be asked to re-schedule their trip at least 14 days later. Guests will be required to bring a cloth face mask to wear during situations when social distancing is not possible. Thank you for your support and understanding during this time.
Unfortunately, many boat ramps were closed during the month of April. I was unable to run any guided trips while following the request of the Oregon State Marine Board. Typically steelhead fishing is good through the month of April on the Siletz River. Soon summer steelhead and spring chinook will begin showing up on this system for anglers to catch. Hopefully the Siletz River boat ramps open soon.
My family and I spent time exploring Green Peter Reservoir. We were kokanee fishing during the month of April. What kokanee lack in size (averaging 10 to 12 inches) they make up with in taste and large catch limits. Green Peter Reservoir has a limit of 25 kokanee per person per day. I prepare kokanee several ways but found smoked with alder wood to be the tastiest. The taste is comparable to fresh salmon.
Upcoming Fishing Seasons
- Summer Trout Fishing … May 22 to October 31
- Spring Chinook … May 20 to June 31
- Summer Steelhead and Trout … June 10 to September 15
- Fall Chinook … August 1 – November 15
I will begin fishing May 15. I have heard reports of fish being caught and it is coming into the prime season to catch one of these great eating salmon. I will only be running a select number of trips for spring chinook this season so please contact me quickly if you would like to get out. Also, trout season on the South Santiam opens May 22 with the best fishing being in the first 2 to 4 weeks of the season. Fall salmon is right around the corner and should provide another season of great fishing, I have already booked a couple trips for the fall and the guests who book early typically get the best days and tides for fishing. Once again Fishing in Oregon has reopened!
