Updates
The winter weather is here, rain is expected everyday in the next two-week period and we have already had some heavy rain in the month of December. Winter weather means it is time for steelhead fishing! I have made several scouting trips in the Month of December and have already hooked and landed a handful of winter steelhead. I am accepting bookings for winter steelhead season right now and I have date available in January, February, and March. This year I will also be teaching a Winter Steelhead fishing Class at Oregon State. This class is apart of OSU’s Physical Activity Courses and will help college anglers to target and catch steelhead in the Pacific Northwest.
Monthly Re-Cap
The fall fishing for Chinook salmon was great this year! We had a couple slow days here and there but most trips experienced good catch rates and many fish harvested and brought home to smoke and barbeque. In September, the lower Alsea and Alsea Jaws area produced hot and heavy fishing. Many days we caught our limit and had several double hook ups. There is nothing more exciting than having two large chinook salmon hooked up while you are fishing the surf line of the Alsea Jaws! In the lower Alsea I will fish a mix of cut plug herring and 360 flashers. We also had good tide water bobber fishing on the Alsea River and great bobber fishing on the Upper Siletz River in October and November following the large rain events. Most fish were caught drifting cured salmon roe under a float in deep pools. Nothing is more exciting that seeing your bobber dip below the water, setting the hook and feeling a 20-pound chinook on the other end!
